Sipi Falls - The Wonder of the East

ziwa-okrasafaris

Sipi Falls – a spectacular falls that we at OKRA SAFARIS consider to be “The Wonder of the East”, is a series of three waterfalls in Eastern Uganda in the district of Kapchorwa. The waterfalls lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park near the Kenyan border. The Sipi Falls area is a great starting point for those interested in hiking up Mt. Elgon. Hiking around the Sipi Falls area offers tourists amazing views of the savannah plains of Karamoja and the coffee growing slopes of Mt. Elgon inhabited by the Bagisu – a tribe known for their dramatic and colourful circumcision rituals which serve as a “right of passage” to manhood for all young men of the ancient tribe.

The Sipi Falls area generally has cooler temperate climate compared to most of the country, and it thus stands out as a great place to camp, relax, and totally unwind from the madness of busy towns and cities in Uganda. Rob's Rolling Rock, a local outfit trained by Italian climbers offers great abseiling experience along the side of the main 100m Sipi waterfalls – a fantastic adrenaline filled day activity fit for the high octane dare-devils who are not scared of heights!!
